Project 365 - August 2009

Project 365 - August 2009
Almost done! Only September remains. Really, today is the last day I'll be taking pictures for the project, but clearly I'll be uploading them for a while yet to catch up.

Day Three Hundred and Thirty-Five: Remainders

Remainders: August 31, 2009
This is what's left over after the estate sales and garage sales are done and after the lost dogs have been found or given up on.

Day Three Hundred and Thirty-Four: Color Blocks

This is a shot of part of a painting that hangs in our rented house. It was done by our landlord's daughter. She has several paintings up in the house and I like many of them, even though I had to take some down to make room for the art we brought with us.

Color Blocks: August 30, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Thirty-Three: Spokes

Spokes: August 29, 2009
We join spokes together in a wheel,
but it is the center hole
that makes the wagon move.

We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.

We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.

We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.
— Tao Te Ching
Spokes II

Day Three Hundred and Thirty-Two: Neon

Neon: August 28, 2009
The sign outside the Inwood Theater, where we went to see a midnight showing of Shaun of the Dead. I love that movie.

And another shot of the sign (this one in focus):

Day Three Hundred and Thirty-One: Lines

Powerlines and a sky it seems you could swim in.

Lines: August 27, 2009
And another just for fun:

Post

Day Three Hundred and Thirty: Broom

We keep this broom on our front porch mostly for when the wasps come around. I guess as it gets cooler that won't really be a problem, though.

Broom: August 26, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Nine: I Love Lamp

I actually do spend a lot of time with this lamp, reading and writing in the living room recliner. Maybe I do love lamp.

I love lamp: August 25, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Eight: Imagination

Imagination: August 24, 2009
"Imagination is like a lofty building reared to meet the sky - fancy is a balloon that soars at the wind's will."
~Frank Gelett Burgess

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Seven: Curve

Looking out my porthole window.

Curve: August 23, 2009

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Six: Branches

Branches: August 22, 2009
“Light is meaningful only in relation to darkness, and truth presupposes error. It is these mingled opposites which people our life, which make it pungent, intoxicating. We only exist in terms of this conflict, in the zone where black and white clash.”
~Louis Aragon

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Five: Pipes

Pipes: August 21, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Four: Shirt

This is where Cory's work clothes live. There is a distinct smell of coffee around this doorway.

Shirt: August 20, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Three: Shells & Shadows

I've had these since I was a kid. They move with me everywhere even though they don't really fit my style.

Shells & Shadows: August 19, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-Two: Perspective

Perspective: August 18, 2009
I tried to put things in perspective but sometimes you're just too close to it.
— Cormac McCarthy, No Country for Old Men

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-One: One-Eyed

Another day of interrupting Sophie's naptime to take pictures.

One-Eyed: August 17, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twenty: Watercolor

Watercolor: August 16, 2009
This actually feels kind of Georgia O'Keeffe-y to me.

Day Three Hundred and Nineteen: Flowers in the Sky

I helped some friends move stuff and took pictures of the tree outside their house. And took pictures of nothing else, apparently. That's okay, though, because the tree is very pretty.

Flowers in the Sky: August 14, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Eighteen: 10056

This is where Cory and I will be getting married in less than two months.

10056: August 14, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Seventeen: Solo

I helped Zachary move his instruments and equipment out of his rehearsal space. This was outside the building, where people sit and smoke, apparently.

Solo: August 13, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Sixteen: Drumset

Drumset: August 12, 2009
Cory's drums in the music room. Along with the drums, we have a digital piano, a cello, an acoustic guitar, two ukuleles, and a clarinet. Now if we only had time to practice.

Day Three Hundred and Fifteen: Red & Yellow

Red & Yellow: August 11, 2009
Red and yellow, kill a fellow.
Red and black, friend of Jack.

Even though I never see snakes, I still think of this little rhyme regularly when I see these colors together.

Day Three Hundred and Fourteen: Lock

My front door with the afternoon sunlight shining through the curtain.

Lock: August 10, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Thirteen: Lizard

There are lizards around the house and sometimes they don't skitter away quickly enough when I go outside and I get to see one and even photograph it.

Lizard: August 9, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Twelve:

Taken while driving home from the downtown library.

Park: August 8, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Eleven: Lines & Lights

Yet more proof that I can't resist powerlines in the sky.

Lines & Lights: August 7, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Ten: Diagonal

Diagonal: August 6, 2009
I really love clouds and power lines. I can't resist taking pictures of them.

Day Three Hundred and Nine: Alone

Alone: August 5, 2009
Whoever starts out toward the unknown must consent to venture alone.
~Andre Gide

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Eight: Decay

Decay: August 4, 2009
Decay is inherent in all compounded things.  Strive on with diligence.
~Buddha

Day Three Hundred and Seven: Crooked Little House

The house that we're renting is supercute but also superslanted. This is the back door, which clearly tilts pretty severely.

Crooked Little House: August 3, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Six: Sunbeam

Sophie's my little sunbeam. My grumpy, demanding little sunbeam.

Sunbeam: August 2, 2009

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Five: Dust

Dust: August 1, 2009
Things need not have happened to be true. Tales and adventures are the shadow truths that will endure when mere facts are dust and ashes and forgotten.
~Neil Gaiman

Project 365 - July 2009

Yes, yes, I'm very behind on posting pictures. At any rate, here's my set for July.

Project 365 - July 2009

Day Three Hundred and Four: White Russian

Made by my own personal bartender (that would be Cory). Yum.

White Russian: July 31, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Three: The Watcher

I was just wandering around taking pictures of the house and got this one of Gracie watching me from the end of the hall. I thought it was cute--in a kind of creepy way.

Also, I love the purple walls!

The Watcher: July 30, 2009

Day Three Hundred and Two: Love Note

Cory wrote this for me on the back of a receipt while we were having lunch. It makes me really happy.

Love Note: July 29, 2009

Day Three Hundred and One: Flying

This is part of a sculpture of a boy swinging a girl around by her arms.

Flying: July 28, 2009

Day Three Hundred: Blue

Woo! Day 300! Only 65 to go (really, only a couple of weeks to go in terms of actually photographing things, but quite a few more to edit and upload).

Blue: July 27, 2009

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Nine: The Old Apartment

This was my last day in the old apartment. Cory and I went back for the last of my junk and to clean up a bit (he actually did most of the cleaning up, though).

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Eight: Windowsill

There's just this random shelf on a corner in a window in the house. It's inexplicable but cool.

Windowsill: July 25, 2009

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Seven: Porthole

This window is one of my favorite things about the house Cory and I are renting.

Porthole: July 24, 2009

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Six: Uninspired

Seriously. This might be my least favorite photo of the project.

Uninspired: July 23, 2009

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Five: Square

Square: July 22, 2009
No more pronouncements on lousy verse. No more hidden competition. No more struggling not to be a square.
~Louise Bogan

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Four: Box Mountain

Box Mountain: July 21, 2009
I have a lot of books and other things that needed to be boxed up when I moved. This is only a small portion of Box Mountain, which grew up along one wall of my bedroom.

Box Mountain - alternate view

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Three: Catfight

Catfight: July 20, 2009
Gracie and Sophie spent quite a while lazily batting at each other on the bed. They were so intent on this that they didn't seem to notice my taking pictures of them being silly.
