Day One Hundred and Eighty-One: Piano

Piano: March 30, 2009
I love my piano. I used to play pretty well, but I don't practice any more like I should. That's partly because I've got too much going on in my life right now and partly because the piano is in pretty bad shape. It's out of tune and though it can be tuned it won't hold a tuning for more than a few days, so that's kind of a waste of money at this point.

Textures from Pink Sherbet Photography.

Day One Hundred and Eighty: Lights

Driving home from Dallas, I stopped at the University of Dallas to wander around and take some pictures. I liked this image of the light of the sun behind the artificial light along this path.

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Nine: Dash

Dash: March 28, 2009
So since I went out and had dinner and drinks and talked a lot on my birthday (even though I was recovering from being sick and had lost my voice) I had a bit of a relapse the following day. Cory and I had planned to go downtown and go to a museum and give me a chance to just walk around and take some pictures, but I didn't feel up to it, so instead we stayed in, had a Lost marathon and played some games. Later that night, I was supposed to go meet my friend Mary at a bar in FW to see a mutual friend's band play, but, again, I didn't feel up for it, so I just stayed in and slept instead.

I was sad I didn't get to do any of those things, but I did have a nice, relaxing day at home with Cory, which was another kind of good day.

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Eight: Happy Birthday to MEE!

Happy Birthday to MEE: March 27, 2009
I thought this bit of graffiti was an appropriate find for this day, since it was my birthday. The day I turned 30 was a cold, gray day--but only in terms of the weather. I was excited to be 30 years old and happy to get to spend the evening with Cory, my friends, and my brother.

Hooray for 30! Hooray for me(e)!

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Seven: Golden

Golden: March 26, 2009
Honeysuckle + Sunset = Awesome.

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Six: Rainy Day

Another sick day and a rainy one, too. I stayed in bed all day and avoided work.

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Five: Diagonal

I was sick and didn't really feel like leaving my bedroom to find something to photograph. Despite my laziness, I still rather like this photo.

Diagonal: March 24, 2009

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Four: Seashell

I have had this seashell since I was a little kid. We found it in the front yard of our house in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I have no idea how it got there.

Seashell: March 23, 2009
Also, here are some pictures of Gracie checking things out as I tried to photograph the shell. Gracie really likes to sniff around my little photo shoots in the window of my apartment (I frequently use the windowsill for macro shots because the light is so nice there and I don't have to go too far). Here she is investigating my seashell and its surroundings.

Behind the Scenes 1: Gracie Checks It Out
Here is the next step in Gracie's investigation of my photoshoot with the seashell. It is now hers. Having claimed it, however, she quickly got bored and went away.

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Three: Beyond Thunderdome

This was taken while I was driving home past what is now the old Cowboys stadium in Irving. What with the army of rigs outside and the overcast sky, it just felt a little dystopian. Hence the title.

Beyond Thunderdome: March 22, 2009

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Two: Hinge

Hinge: March 21, 2009
I spent this entire day trying to grade and then went out to a birthday party for one of Cory's friends. I only realized at the restaurant with the party that I hadn't taken a picture all day. So I took this lovely picture in the restaurant bathroom. Awesome.

Day One Hundred and Seventy: Sophie

I just realized it had been a while since Sophie had been featured in my Project 365, so here she is!

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Nine: Blank

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Eight: Bruised

Bruised: March 17, 2009
I just realized that this is my photo for St. Patrick's Day. The greenish shade of the (heavily edited) sky was not intended to be a St. Patrick's Day element. I just thought it looked cool.

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Seven: Vision

Vision: March 16, 2009
The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but has no vision.
~Helen Keller

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Six: Typewriter

Typewriter: March 15, 2009
There are two electric typewriters in the English department mailroom. I'm not sure why. Who uses these?

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Five: Fake Door

Fake Door: March 14, 2009
Is this an old door that has been blocked off and painted? Where did it go? Why did it get blocked? Why is it painted a different color than the rest of the wall?

This is probably not as interesting as I think it is.

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Four: Blue

Blue: March 13, 2009
The touch of an infinite mystery passes over the trivial and the familiar, making it break out into ineffable music... The trees, the stars, and the blue hills ache with a meaning which can never be uttered in words.
~Rabindranath Tagore

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Three: Locked

Locked: March 12, 2009
I thought how unpleasant it is to be locked out; and I thought how it is worse, perhaps, to be locked in.
~Virginia Woolf

Day One Hundred and Sixty-Two: Self Serve

Self Serve: March 11, 2009
I like this shot for reasons I can't quite explain.

Day One Hundred and Sixty-One: Conehead

Conehead: March 10, 2009
I had my kitty Gracie spayed and I was worried that she'd lick at the wound while I was gone at work and couldn't watch her, so she got to wear the head cone. I kind of wish I could have her wear it every now and then just for the sheer cuteness of it.

She's no longer wearing the headcone, but I still call her Conehead.

Day One Hundred and Sixty: Donuts

Donuts: March 9, 2009
This abandoned donut shop is near the vet's office, where I was going to pick up my kitty. Since I was early for my pickup time, I drove around here and took a few pictures. The sky was nice enough to cooperate with the mood of the building.

Also, I just finished reading Blindness by José Saramago. I don't have much intelligent to say about it at this point except that it was one of the most unremittingly bleak and depressing books I have ever read. And yet I couldn't put it down.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Nine: Tennis-Scape

Tennis-scape: March 8, 2009
Cory and I played tennis at a small little (apparently fairly abandoned and definitely fairly secluded) tennis court. Neither of us are very good, but it was fun. We'll play again and improve.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Eight: Decay

Here is a whole series of photos of the railing of this bridge. The paint was peeling and the metal rusted.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Seven: That-A-Way

Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius--and a lot of courage--to move in the opposite direction.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Six: Reaching for the Moon

Reaching for the Moon: March 5, 2009
I just discovered that there's a 1930 movie called Reaching for the Moon, starring Douglas Fairbanks, with music by Irving Berlin. It's well-known for its set design and costumes (apparently) and I really want to see it. Just added it to my netflix queue, as a matter of fact.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Five: Spring Has Sprung

At least it seemed to have sprung last week when I took this photo at the park.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Four: Sunset

I spent about 9 hours today in my office at school writing a paper. I kind of missed out on most of the daylight, so here's a view of the sunset from my office window, complete with the smokestacks (or something) on top of the nearby chemistry building.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Three: Sunbeams

Sunbeams: March 2, 2009
I walked around Cory's apartment complex and took some pictures this morning. It's kind of a neat place. There are hammocks, a dog park, a sand volleyball court, two pools, a strange little oversized chess board in one courtyard, and various statues. Here's part of one of the stone statues.

It was a beautiful morning, if a bit chilly.

Day One Hundred and Fifty-Two: 1000

1000: March 1, 2009
I stopped and took this on the way out to Cory's apartment, where I did some writing and hung out until he got home. Then we ran some errands and watched some Lost and tried to sleep over the sounds of the noisy, noisy neighbors. Noisy neighbors aside, it was a good day.
